It is our distinct pleasure to announce a new partnership between The Center for Worship & Music Studies and Luther Seminary’s Center for Lifelong Learning. We are pleased that the solid foundation and legacy of The Center, with its cadre of leaders, will continue to be embraced and available through future class offerings through Luther. While the schedule of classes for 2018-19 is still being finalized, this partnership will strive to offer high quality learning opportunities to fit the needs and challenging schedules of worship leaders and church musicians.
The facilitator of these courses is Dawn Alitz, Director of the Center for Lifelong Learning. Together with the Board of Directors for The Center for Worship and Music Studies, and Jay Beech, Dawn looks forward to carrying the spirit of The Center into the future. We are thrilled that this partnership shares a common mission: to prepare musicians and others for planning and leading thoughtful and vibrant worship, to equip them to teach and mentor others, and to train and support them in guiding their communities in discerning their worship practices. Our work will continue to be rooted in the Lutheran tradition, valuing a broad ecumenical perspective.
The Center for Lifelong Learning at Luther has scheduled the Leadership and Management for Worship and Music course to take place April 18-20, and will work to expand worship and music offerings later in the year and beyond. If you wish to receive a Kairos 2018 catalog, register for a class, or need more information, please visit luthersem.edu/kairos or call 651-641-3416.
We thank you for your interest or participation in The Center for Worship and Music Studies and encourage you to explore these new opportunities with Luther Seminary’s Center for Lifelong Learning.

Church work would be so much easier if you didn’t actually have to deal with people, wouldn’t it? (I suspect that God has had this same thought a time or two). However, working effectively with God’s people is essential to success in ministry. That requires skills that not all of us come by naturally.
In addition to several electives, our Certificate in Worship & Music Leadership includes two major core classes: Worship 101, and a class we are offering for first time, Leadership & Management 101. In this new class, eight outstanding and experienced teachers will present on topics that are mostly “unmusical.” These are the areas where your musical skills and theological chops are of little help.
This three-day intensive at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN, will cover these important topics:
